The Skidaway Institute of Oceanography is an independent institution that is part of the University System of Georgia (USG).

The are 36 USG campuses spread across the state that provide higher education opportunities for citizens of Georgia.  SkIO works with all campuses to provide marine research and education opportunities and a gateway to the marine and coastal environments of the southeastern U.S.
