What type of oceanographic research is conducted at SkIO?
Research programs include studies of physical, chemical, and geological processes affecting the sea floor, water chemistry and biological communities of nearshore environments, continental shelf, and open ocean; experimental and field studies of the energetics and population dynamics of marine food webs; studies of atmospheric transport to and cycling of trace elements and organic compounds in oceanic systems; and studies of marine biochemistry, toxicology, and chemical ecology.
-
How can I find out more about specific research projects?
See our research web pages on our main navigation bar for specific project information and also see individual faculty web pages for research being conducted in their labs.
-
Do SkIO scientists conduct research only in local waters?
No, scientists at SkIO conduct research all over the world depending on where each research project takes them.
-
Where can I find local real-time data?
Here on our website. An observational network called SABSOON, exists on the continental shelf and transmits data to SkIO. Currently, three offshore platforms provide a range of data on a continuous basis.
