Tentative Workshop Agenda

Sunday, 16 November :
Arrive.
Reception

Monday, 17 November:
Presentations and discussions of background papers.
Group discussion.

Tuesday, 18 November:
Review and discussion of relevant recent, regional and global science projects/programs.
Identify science gaps and regional science issues (including impediments to conducting science in the region)
Writing groups will be assigned to capture the “state of knowledge and scientific uncertainty” from the first two days of discussion.

Wednesday, 19 November:
Form three subgroups according to discipline (physical, biological, and chemical) to address the state of knowledge (e.g. circulation, controls on primary production, material transport, etc.) These subgroups would
report back to entire group.

Thursday, 20 November:
Form inter discipline subgroups to develop research foci. One subgroup, however, would be identified and charged with formulating a regional project to implement the application of natural isotopic tracers to the study of SWAOM processes.

Friday, 21 November:
Concluding remarks.
Rest of day used for groups to get together for more detailed discussion regarding possible collaborations.

Saturday, 22 November:
Participants depart.
During the course of the workshop, perhaps in the evenings, participants will be encouraged to discuss the direction of future research and the logistic and other operational impediments to initiating multinational, multidiscipline efforts. An attempt will also be made to identify existing and needed assets for the conduct of such research and how these needs might be addressed.
