 Research Interests and Projects

Observational physical oceanography; dynamics of episodic, seasonal, and mean processes accounting for the transport of water and the material it contains through different ocean regimes, from open ocean to shelf settings. Boundary current variability, effects on coastal circulation effects, wind and buoyancy effects at subtidal, tidal, and super-tidal temporal scales. In most cases, I have endeavored to select problems that have cross-disciplinary significance.

Current Projects:
  • NSF OCE-0926852, ``Collaborative Research: LES and Modeling of Turbulence on Shallow Shelves under Combined Langmuir, Tidal \& Convective Forcing with Comparison to VADCP Observations", PIs: Chet Grosch, Ann Gargett, Andres Tejada-Martinez and Dana Savidge.  Responsible for determining and providing ranges of forcing from SAB observations.
  • NSF OCE-0536326, ``Collaborative Research: Benthic Observatory and Technology Testbed On the Mid Shelf -- Understanding Processes.", PIs: William Savidge, Jim Nelson, Dana Savidge, Rick Jahnke, Ann Gargett, George Voulgaris, Tim Short.  Extension: January 2009 through December 2010. Responsible for oceanographic setting on water-column to shelf scale.
  • NSF Polar Programs OPP-0230082, "Shelf-Edge Circulation on the West Antarctic Peninsula: An Analysis Utilizing Existing Data and Regional Model Output", PI: D.K. Savidge.
Duration: March 2003 through February 2006.
  • NSF Physical Oceanography OCE-0326684, "Collaborative Research: Cross-shelf Transport and Alongshelf Exchange Processes in Regions of Multiple Mesoscale Fronts", PI: D.K. Savidge (lead PI) with J.A. Austin (ODU), G. Gawarkiewicz (WHOI lead) and J. Churchill (WHOI).
Duration: September 2003 through August 2006.
