Physiological ecology of phytoplankton; interactions of phytoplankton with trace metals, microbial diversity, mechanisms of Fe uptake.

Current Projects:

Investigating the phylogenetic and metabolic diversity of the bacteria associated with the colonial marine cyanobacteria Trichodesmium , including mechanisms of iron acquisition.
Evaluating fluorescent stains for use in identifying specific eukaryotic phytoplankton groups using flow cytometry.
Determining the effects of arsenic toxicity on marine cyanobacteria.
