 Research Interests and Projects

Physiological ecology of phytoplankton; interactions of phytoplankton with trace metals, microbial diversity, mechanisms of Fe uptake.

Current Projects:
  • Investigating the phylogenetic and metabolic diversity of the bacteria associated with the colonial marine cyanobacteria Trichodesmium , including mechanisms of iron acquisition.
  • Evaluating fluorescent stains for use in identifying specific eukaryotic phytoplankton groups using flow cytometry.
  • Determining the effects of arsenic toxicity on marine cyanobacteria.
