Benthic Light

Benthic light on the South Atlantic Bight in early June 2006.

(Top left) Unenhanced image of light at the sediment-water interface at approx. 27 m water depth in the SAB.  Sediment ripples are evident with a tether line bisecting them.

(Bottom left) Color adjusted by autoleveling of top left image shows multitude of fish at the bottom, and clearly defined ripples.

(Top right) Unenhanced image of the SAB sediment-water interface with an ADCP frame for scale.

(Bottom right) Color adjusted by autoleveling of top right image shows clear ripple development.  Size of ADCP frame indicates that ripple period is approx 1 m.  Cloudiness in upper image is again due to numerous small fish seen more clearly in lower image.
